The Neurological Foundation and Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland, the organisers of Brain Day Auckland, have announced a change of venues due to the popular demand of tickets to the key lectures and discussion panels. Brain Day was to be held at the University of Auckland’s newly revamped Grafton Campus and will move to last year’s venue of The University of Auckland’s Business School for the Saturday 16 March event.

The Neurological Foundation announced today that funding of nearly $1 million for neurological research and educational scholarships has been approved in its December 2012 grant round. This brings the total funding committed to neurological research in New Zealand to over $40 million since the Foundation’s first grants were allocated in 1972. The Neurological Foundation is the primary non-government sponsor of neurological research in New Zealand.

Scientists at The University of Auckland’s Centre for Brain Research have succeeded in converting human skin cells directly into immature brain cells (or neural precursor cells).
The team, assisted by funding from the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand, the Auckland Medical Research Foundation, and the Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust , has led the world in developing a fast and efficient means of accomplishing this without having to go through the intermediate stage of conversion to embryonic stem cells.

High-bidding Mitre 10 staff raised $38,500 for the Neurological Foundation at a lively charity auction on Friday night. The auction featured on the closing night of the Mitre 10 New Zealand annual conference, held in Melbourne this year.
Mitre 10 General Manager Marketing, Dave Elliott says the amount raised reflects the community spirit of store owners and staff around the country.
