Why Support Us

How your support helps

The Neurological Foundation is an independent body and charitable trust that raises funds to ensure New Zealand’s top neuroscientists and clinicians can continue leading-edge research into neurological disorders.

The only non-government organisation exclusively dedicated to funding crucial brain research, the Neurological Foundation has been funding New Zealand scientists and clinicians in their quest to find treatments and cures for neurological disorders since the first awarded grants in 1972.

Neurological Foundation grants have helped establish the careers of many internationally-recognised New Zealand scientists, leading to numerous neuroscience breakthroughs for numerous neurological disorders. This, in turn, brings hope to the one in five New Zealanders whose lives will be affected by these often debilitating, heart-breaking conditions.

Such progress would not be possible without the unwavering support and generosity of New Zealanders.  98% of Neurological Foundation funds come from individual donations and bequests, and 100% of these donations are committed to fund internationally peer-reviewed neurological research and talented New Zealand neuroscientists and clinicians.

In 2011, thanks to the incredible commitment of our supporters, the Foundation awarded over $2 million in grants to researchers and students, who are progressing our understanding of and ability to treat a wide spectrum of neurological disorders.

Examples of research the Neurological Foundation funds can be seen on our Current Research page.

We hope to surpass this funding in 2012 and, with your support, will ensure the vital and world-class work of our best brain researchers and clinicians can continue.
