Who we are Neurological Foundation

About us

Advancing neurological research in Aotearoa since 1971.

The Neurological Foundation is New Zealand’s only national charity dedicated solely to funding neurological research and education.

We support research into conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system, while helping build the future of neuroscience in Aotearoa.

New Zealand’s only dedicated neurological research charity

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for New Zealanders impacted by neurological conditions.

For more than 55 years, the Neurological Foundation has played a unique role in advancing neurological research and education in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are the country’s only independent charity dedicated solely to funding research into conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. From Parkinson’s disease and dementia to epilepsy, stroke, and traumatic brain injury, our work supports research that improves understanding, treatment, and care for New Zealanders.

Beyond research funding, we help strengthen New Zealand’s wider neuroscience ecosystem by supporting emerging researchers, investing in specialist training and grants, providing trusted public education, and maintaining the Human Brain Bank a nationally significant resource that supports neurological discovery and collaboration.

We are proud of the ground-breaking research that we have been able to fund thanks to our supporters.
