Investing in the future of neurological research
Over the five years to 2025, the Neurological Foundation committed more than $14 million to neurological research and education across Aotearoa.
Our funding supports research, clinical innovation, emerging neuroscience talent, and nationally significant initiatives including the Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank at the University of Auckland’s Centre for Brain Research, and the Chair in Clinical Neurology.
By investing strategically in research and education, we aim to improve diagnosis, treatment, and long-term outcomes for people affected by neurological conditions.
The Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank
The Human Brain Bank is a nationally significant research resource supporting neurological discovery in New Zealand and around the world.
Through the generous donation of brain tissue by individuals and families, researchers are able to deepen understanding of neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and motor neurone disease.
Containing more than 600 donated brains and tissue samples, the Brain Bank plays a vital role in advancing research, improving diagnosis, and supporting future treatments for neurological conditions.
Neurological Foundation Chair in Clinical Neurology
Supported by the Neurological Foundation since 2007, the Chair in Clinical Neurology helps bridge the gap between neurological research and patient care.
By bringing researchers and clinicians together, the role supports advances in diagnosis, treatment, and care for people affected by neurological conditions across New Zealand.
Sharing neurological research and expertise across Aotearoa
Alongside funding neurological research, we help connect New Zealanders with trusted information, expert insights, and the latest developments in brain health and neurological conditions.
Through public events, educational resources, and our quarterly magazine Headlines, we share research, raise understanding, and support better neurological health across Aotearoa.
