Although researchers have been working hard for over 30 years on drug treatments, they’ve only been able to address the symptoms. Brain tumours can be devastating. Due to their potentially aggressive nature, treatment often requires surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This often comes at a significant cost to patient health, with up to 50% of patients developing radiation-induced injury to their brain. Dr Thomas Park is a Senior Research Fellow at the Neurosurgery Research Unit at the Centre for Brain Research. He and his research team are working to reveal new information about this collateral damage.
